10 EASY WAYS YOU CAN JOIN IN

Everyone can do something to help fight for the promised referendum on the EU Constitution / Lisbon Treaty.

There's strength in numbers and the Democracy Movement's campaigns are so effective because we have a wide network of support and there are many small ways to get involved.

If we all work together, however small the things we each do, collectively they can make a huge difference.

Please join in! Below are some ideas for what you can do for however much time you have available.

Register your support. It's free, and the more supporters we have, the greater the pressure MPs and the government will be put under to stick to their referendum promises. We don't pass the personal details of our supporters to anyone else and there's no further commitment to give time or money. All you will receive is occasional updates about our campaign. Register by clicking here.

Sign up others who agree with you. Encourage your friends, neighbours, relatives and workmates to register as supporters of the Democracy Movement as well - anyone who agrees with you about the importance of our campaigns. You can use our special multi-registration form to sign them up - click here to download. click here to open (27k)

Get involved in a local DM group. DM branches organise a range of local activities, from letter-writing campaigns and public meetings to leaflet distribution and info stalls in shopping centres. Volunteers are always needed to take part in or even help arrange these activities. Find out if there is a branch near you by clicking here.

Help us to set up a local group. If there is no branch in your area, help us to start one! Having local groups active in every community across the country will be the key to applying sufficient pressure for change on MPs. Helping us to start a group in your area need not commit you to further involvement. To find out more, contact us by clicking here.

Make a donation. The DM's campaigns depend entirely on the voluntary donations of supporters. We face a huge task and, unlike our opponents, we are not funded by the British and European taxpayer. Please consider making a donation to our campaign fund. If you can't be active yourself, please help us to support those who can. To find out more, click here.

Distribute leaflets. Help us to let people know the implications of the EU Constitution / Lisbon treaty and why they should press their MP for a referendum by distributing our free leaflets door-to-door in your area. Click here to view our range of free campaign materials and order any quantity, from a few to pass around your contacts to hundreds to put through local letterboxes.

Make sure your library has our side of the argument. Write to or visit your local library to request any of the publications on our bookshop page. Click here to see our list of EU-related books. Also ask them to stock the international EU-critical magazine These Tides (ISSN 1368-4914).

Write to your MP. Whether your MP is for or against passing more powers to the EU, it's vital they get feedback from their constituents for their view. In the first instance, please write to them at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA expressing your support for a referendum and asking what their view is on the issue. To find out who your MP is and how they voted on the Lisbon Treaty, click here and enter your postcode.

Please send us a copy of any response you receive for our file of where MPs stand on the issue - our address is at the bottom of this page.

Most local and regional newspapers have Letters pages and are very keen to hear the views of local people, not just on local issues. Surveys show that the local media is one of the most trusted sources of information, and that the Letters page is often the most widely read section of the paper. Just a brief letter on the issue can take a short time to write yet, if published, can reach tens of thousands of people in one go.

You don't even have to create letters yourself. Register with us as a letter-writer for your local paper and we'll send you occasional sample letters to copy and forward to the paper. This will help spread our arguments and generate support, but take you very little time. Click here to register and tick the appropriate box at the bottom of the page.
